TTT WORKSHOP | CONSTRUCTIONS OF PROTOTYPING DEPLOYABLE STRUCTURE SITE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE FCU TAICHUNG TAIWAN | 2019 | TEAM: FCU TAICHUNG, ETSAE (CARTAGENA), UTOKIO, POLITO, UNICAM | TYPOLOGY: UMBRELLA, PAVILLION/DIGITAL

The site for the project (pavilion) is located next to the Main Gate of Feng Chia University. The site is empty, and no design has been currently proposed for it. It is expected that this site will work as a soft- boundary for the University providing a subtle demarcation. The workshop therefore explored this topic of campus boundary design through the research on systems of devices/prototypes based on deployable structures with the aim to generate an adaptable response to the unstable situation defined by the rhythms of the Night Market and the University in Taichung. The result should create a new relationship between the urban public and private activities within the surrounding context by buffering and controlling its unstable nature, and open discussions about the convenience of focusing on efficiency or resilience as bases for urbanism. The results will also try to anticipate how architecture can interpolate with people and space, improving the role of the university as a part of the urban active context. This design theme is therefore a reminder of how intangible elements can be reformed and generate through specific objects a new spatial boundary that interpolates the relation between the site (Feng Chia University) and the environment (local community).
