KANTINE

KANTINE | EL PALMAR, MURCIA, SPAIN | PROMOTER: MERCAMURCIA | MARTINO PEÑA + ANTONIO CEREZUELA + KATJA WIRFLER | 2003 | 80 m²

In the middle of the elongated Market hall of Murcia, directly opposite to the entrance, a sale and bearing module for vegetables is converted into a bar. The module defined by a structure of precast reinforced concrete will be cleaned. On the floor a red coloured painted polymeric pavements welcomes the clients and directs them into the Kantine until a glass window stops them. There on the glass wall, different fruit pictures are projected. The side walls are made of marble slabs, playing with the tonality, size and sometimes are changed with coloured plastic panels to thicken the vertical element. Glass balls as lamps are suspended halfway up and divide the space vertically. The variety of the colours and the motifs of fruits reflect the hustle and bustle of the market.
